Help with error code XAudio2Create() = 0x800700c1

Hi, I've been trying to play the game Trails of Cold Steel III on Steam, and also the GoG version and neither will boot.

I get a black screen with the code XAudio2Create() = 0x800700c1. Solutions online are very few and all insist upon reinstalling DirectX versions or changing audio settings, none of which worked.

Event Viewer also gives this:

I'm not really knowledgeable about fixing this sort of stuff and I'm at my wits end after a few days of attempting to fix this so hopefully someone here can help.

    Hello RusselAEC and welcome to the Microsoft Community!

    According to your feedback, you are experiencing a problem playing the game Trails of Cold Steel III, and the GoG version, which cannot be started with the error code XAudio2Create() = 0x800700c1.

    First you can check the integrity of the game by right clicking on it.

    to see if your game can be fixed

    Secondly, after listening to the event viewer above, I see that you have a problem with ucrtbase.dll.

    Suggest you try to do a replacement for the ucrtbase.dll file.

    Do you have any other computer with the same system version and bitrate?

    In C:\WINDOWS\System32\ucrtbase.dll, copy ucrtbase.dll to this computer to replace the original file.

    You can back up your files, then open the command prompt, run the command prompt as administrator, paste and enter the command sfc /scannow to perform the repair operation.

    We hope you find the above information helpful!
