Windows Search Indexer High CPU and Disk usage + White File icons

Hello,

For the past few weeks, I've been experiencing file explorer freezes in Windows 11, with white icons appearing on some files and directories. Checking the processes, I see Windows Search Indexer consuming 15 to 20% of the CPU and especially 500 MB/s of disk read. I feel like this is what's blocking the file explorer, preventing it from accessing the disk to read file icons. Is anyone else having the same issue? I'm starting to consider reinstalling my Windows 11. Thanks in advance.

    Hello, FLAP33000

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Thank you for your feedback. Your issue may be related to the Windows Search Indexer service. Here are some troubleshooting options:

    Option 1:

Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc).

    Go to the Services tab.

    Find the “Windows Search” service.

Right-click on it and select “Stop”.

Observe if File Explorer stops freezing.

    Option 2:

In the Indexing settings, click Advanced Options.

    Click Rebuild Indexes.

I look forward to your feedback. It will help me to pinpoint your problem.

    Best Regards,
