Missing Characters When Typing

Has anyone else ever had this happen to them? Recently, when I've been typing in Microsoft Edge, JAWS seems to think there's missing letters. Is JAWS on the fritz? Or is it my keyboard that's acting strange? As far as I know, this doesn't happen in any other applications. Even the screen is a bit slow to respond sometimes. I'm on JAWS 2021 with a home annual license in Windows 10 Home 64 Bit. I think it all started when Windows installed an update of 10.0.1904 1.3636 without my knowledge or consent! Is there a way to safely fix this without making my machine unbootable? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the keyboard drivers, but that didn't change anything, as I believe Windows Update deliberately put a bugged driver on there. What's up with that, I wonder?

I noticed that you mentioned that resetting edge can temporarily solve the problem. It is likely that there is a conflict between edge and JAWS.

Try closing all extensions and if it still doesn't work, I suggest you provide feedback to JAWS and edge.

You may feedback your questions again in the Microsoft Edge browser. Open the problematic page in the Microsoft Edge browser, then use the shortcut keys "Alt" + "Shift" + "I" to open the feedback window (Note that the feedback window will capture the current screen and URL link and email address, and you can add Attachment and record your problem), enter your problem, and click "Send".

We look forward to hearing back from you.

    Best Regards

I've done all of that, in that particular order, but nothing changed! Resetting edge only fixed the problem temporarily, then it just updates and goes back to missing characters. JAWS had nothing to do with it, as my keyboard works fine in all other applications.

    Hello AnnabelleBaradine

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like JAWS thinks there are missing letters when you type in Microsoft Edge.

You suspect it's a system update issue.

Here are some problem analyzes and solutions:

I understand that your computer has no issues with other applications. The problem only occurs in edge.

This rules out keyboard issues. If it is a keyboard problem. He will have problems in any application.

This may be a conflict between edge and JAWS.

Let’s rule out edge problems first:

    1. Clear Microsoft Edge browser cache Take the Microsoft Edge browser as an example. Enter "edge://settings/clearBrowserData" in the Edge browser address bar, press Enter to open the clear browser data page, then check the data you want to clear, click "Clear Now", and restart the browser. Disclaimer*: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix page display problems.* Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.
    2. Repair Microsoft Edge browser. "Win" logo key + "I" open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed apps*>* Microsoft Edge > Modify > Repair*.*
    3. Disable Browser Extensions:
      • Extensions might sometimes cause unwanted behavior. Try disabling extensions one by one to see if any of them are causing the issue.
      • Go to "Settings" > "Extensions" and toggle off each extension.
    4. Reset Edge You can reset your Edge browser. Before that, please back up your data (you can save bookmarks and other information locally, or log in to your Microsoft account to sync all information to your account). Copy "edge://settings/resetProfileSettings" into the Edge browser address bar, then read the prompts carefully, and then confirm whether to reset the Edge browser.

If the above does not work, I suggest you reinstall JAWS while saving important information.

If you still have problems after reinstalling JAWS, it is recommended that you contact JAWS for feedback and they will analyze and adapt it.

If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards
