Fixing high page file memory usage problem?

I've ran into a problem with the memory and performance on my PC.

I have 16 GB physical RAM installed. Been having a lot of crashes, so I started to investigate. It turns out dxdiag showed me a possible root of the problem: very high page file usage (screenshot attached).

Also, I went into task manager and found that there is a whopping committed memory usage of 21.4 out of 24.5 GB.

There must be a big issue, because I don't have very much opened, and my virtual memory size (paging file) is set at 9 GB.

What would be the reason for all this considering I have only a few apps open that don't even fill up the installed memory?

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Mark,

My name is Igor, it's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll try to help you.

Is committed memory size increase over time after turning PC on or id so high immediately after Windows booting? Please check how fatly it increases.

Definitely takes time and usage to ramp up, but it still does. Since the time I posted, I tried increasing the page file size within virtual memory settings. It still gets full even at a 70 GB page file size! This never happened before.
