This is probably a question that has been asked a lot, but I would like a more direct response. Whenever I go to settings and click "windows update" I get lead to the page telling me "Updates available", every time I click retry all, and it takes a second, then just stops. or if I click download & install, it takes a second and stops. This is preventing me from opening the rockstar launcher, and probably some other stuff. I really need help ya'll.

    Hi, Archer Egan

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We have learnt that you are experiencing the problem of Windows not updating. There are many reasons that usually lead to this issue, such as network environment, corrupted system components, firewall settings, and so on. We suggest you can try the following options:

    I.Check the network environment

If you are using WiFi, you can try to connect to LAN or use other network environment.

    2.Reset network settings

Tap windows+R key, type inetcpl.cpl, open Internet Options, click Advanced, and tick "Use SSL 3.0", "Use TLS 1.0", "Use TLS 1.1", "Use TLS 1.2", reboot the computer after applying them to see if the problem can be solved.

    3.Reset Proxy Server Settings

Click windows+R, type inetcpl.cpl, open Internet Options, click Connections, click LAN Settings, check whether Proxy Server is ticked, if so, uncheck it and click OK, restart your computer after applying it to see if the problem can be solved.

    4.Change DNS

    1. Click windows+R and type ncpa.cpl.
    2. Click on the name of the network you are currently connected to, open the Network Status window, click Properties, and then double-click Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4) in the Network Properties window.
    3. Manually set the DNS servers to "4.2.2.1" and "4.2.2.2" and restart the computer to see if the problem can be solved.

II. Try to repair the system

    1. Search CMD, find the command prompt, choose to run in administrator mode.
    2. Enter the following commands one by one, be sure to execute the next command after the completion of the previous one. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth SFC /Scannow
    3. After the scan is completed, you can check the scanning information to see if the problem has been detected and fixed.

III. Detect whether the service is disabled:

Press Windows+R and search for service.msc.

Check the update service wuauserv.bits service, Windows update service update related whether it is disabled.

I hope the above options will be helpful to you!

    Sincerely

Nicholas | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
