Windows 10 update issue

I successfully installed update KB5036892 on Friday 12th April. Since then, windows update has been attempting to re-install the same update again. It shows that it is installing and then restarts the PC. This then presents a message that files need to be repaired and it uninstalls the update and shows a 0x800f0845 message on the windows update screen which it has done twice now. I have also run the troubleshooter and this is not identifying any issues.

    Thanks David

Just to clarify before I follow any of the actions. The update in question is showing as successfully installed on 12th April, but is trying to install the same update again as you can see below with the last attempt earlier this evening I have used the Windows Troubleshooter but this is showing no issues for repair.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

Only to rule out your antivirus as the cause of the problem, temporarily disable it and try updating Windows. Don't forget to enable it again after doing this.

If the problem persists after disabling the antivirus, I suggest doing the following:

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and try to install the update.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win...

If it persists, rename the software distribution folders as instructed below:

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    net stop bits

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptsvc

    ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak

    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak

    net start bits

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptsvc

    1. After all these commands are completed, close the Command Prompt window, restart your computer, and then try to update Windows.

If it persists, use the system file checker to repair possible corrupted or missing system files.

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    sfc /scannow

Note: Pay close attention to the results of the commands. This will help you determine whether the procedure was completed successfully or if there was a problem. If you get any errors, let me know the error message that was displayed.

    1. Then restart your PC and see if you can update.

If it persists, download and install the update that is having problems manually.

Download the installation package from the link below.

Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Please clarify the following:

Do you have a third-party antivirus?

    If yes, which one?

Also. What is the version and "OS Build" of your Windows 10?

    • Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

If you prefer, send a screenshot. Use the shortcut "Windows + Shift + S" to use the screenshot tool.
