Disappearing windows

I know Outlook Express is old and unsupported but it has served me and I'm sure millions of others very well over the years. In the last couple of weeks I have been finding that if I go to reply to or forward an email, when the sub-window pops up, unless I click into it within a second or so, the sub-window just minimizes itself and I have to bring it up again. I have also noticed it when I open File Explorer, that a sub-window minimizes itself which makes me think its not just an OE issue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I tried the first process but failed at Step 4 as it seemed to take ages so I gave up. I tried this a couple of times.

To be honest I was not happy trying your second suggestion as it really seemed quite technical. However I have got round the issue within Windows Live Mail by maximising "New Mail" and "Reply" etc windows as they don't suddenly disappear. It also happens when I have other "small" windows in, for example, Excel or File Explorer so, again, I try to use them in maximised format.

    Thanks for responding, anyway.

Hello gatehill, welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Based on your feedback, it seems like your computer's windows are having some issues.

You can try the following methods to see if they can solve your problem:

    Perform a clean boot

    Here's how:

    1. Press Windows+R, type msconfig
    2. Open System Configuration, select the General tab - Selective startup.
    3. Uncheck the box for loading startup items.
    4. Go to the Services tab - click on Hide all Microsoft services in the lower-left corner, then click on Disable all.
    5. Click OK, and restart your computer. (Make sure to first select Hide all Microsoft services, then Disable all, as failing to do so might lead to unforeseen issues like being unable to access the system)
    6. Check if the issue still persists.

Note: A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so you can determine if background programs are interfering with your games or applications and help you identify the cause of the problem. It will help you get back on track.

    Try repairing the system

    1. Search for CMD, find Command Prompt, and choose to run as administrator.
    2. Enter the following commands one by one, make sure to execute the next command only after the previous one is completed:

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    SFC /Scannow

    1. After the scan is complete, you can check the scan information to see if any issues were detected and fixed.

    Create a new account

Select "Start"> "Settings"> "Accounts," then select "Family & other users." (In some versions of Windows, you will see "Other users.")

Select "Add someone else to this PC."

Choose "I don't have this person's sign-in information," then on the next page select "Add a user without a Microsoft account."

Enter a username, password, and password hint, or choose security questions, then select "Next."

Hope the above information helps you.所帮助
