Problem with KB5034441

I saw in another post that this update was problematic for many users, and that Microsoft planned to create a fix for it. Have they done it yet? Anyone??

I hadn't used this computer since Dec 2023. When I booted it up, I installed all the available updates, including KB5034441. They all installed successfully except that one. I thought perhaps the order in which they were installed was the issue. So, I tried to restore the system to a point before all of these updates. But the earliest restore point available was March 13, too late to help.

I googled this issue and followed the suggestions. I ran the Windows Update Troubleshooter. It said it fixed something, but it didn't make a difference. I confirmed that Background Intelligent Transfer Service is "running". Finally, I ran SFC to check for system errors and corrupted files. After a restart, no change. The only thing I didn't try was modifying the partitions, which I believe is beyond my skillset.

I wondered if I needed this update at all? I ran "reagentc /info" and confirmed that WinRE was enabled. So, yes, it appears I need it. Now what?

Microsoft should be more transparent about what they are doing and not doing to address this issue. It should be possible to add a step that checks if the update is needed or not on a particular computer. If it is needed, then a step should follow to adjust the partition size without the user needing to use arcane methods that may be outside their comfort level. If the update is not needed, then it can be Microsoft update can show that it has been checked and not repeatedley try to install it. If the update is needed and the partition needs tweaking, then tweak it, install and again stop it from showing up as needing to be installed. This is a linear programming approach. No artificial intelligence needed. The current microsoft approach reeks of artificial stupidiity.

No... You ain't see nothing yet!! :-D No updates about an update... Unfortunately. And the work arounds, you perhaps also may have seen in this forum? They works for some - for other, tehy don't. The same, with reinstalling Windows - ALSO very mixed results.

And it won't help to disable antivirus program.

And resizing the recovery partition, ALSO only gives mixed results.

My name is Jonathan Deives. I'm an Independent Advisor and I'll be glad to help you today.

Remembering that this is a public forum and we are users like you.
Microsoft is still working to fix this update, unfortunately there is no date, you can hide this update or pause it.

Alternatives to installing the update that worked for some users:

You can try installing the update by running the resolution provided by Sumit D - VM:

Or you can try to repair Windows using upgrade.
