Move app data to default drive.

Hello,

I recently got an ssd installed which is great and improved the overall performance of my device. The issue being, my user profile, settings, browser bookmarks, etc, have all been replaced. The new ssd has become the default drive and I can't access my previous profile, which is quite a headache as I don't want to customize and download all my apps and games all over.

So how do I move my data to the default drive, or make it a default drive?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Well, not able to clone using macrium because of " C\ unable to dismount volume" error. Can't dismount C because it's the main drive. I tried migrating os to the HDD but that would delete all my data which I want to move to C(SSD) in the first place.

I'll try macrium out. Thanks for the help. The games I had installed are also especially laggy which never happened before. Hope this solves most of the problems

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

It is not possible or safe to move the AppData folder to the new drive, that can corrupt your installed software.

If you want to keep all your user files, settings and installed software the way they were on the old drive, can you connect both drives to your PC at the same time?

If you can, then the best option would be to use a 3rd party utility like the free trial version of Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive onto the new drive.

Providing the ssd is large enough you should cloned C:\ to the new ssd, once completed, immediately shutdown, removed the pwr to C then rebooted, the new ssd will then be C, the boot drive, then you can pwr on the old drive and probab;y best to format it.
