I got malware on my windows 11 PC, and I got rid of it. I checked Windows Defender everything seemed normal. After the malware incident, I reset my PC. Now, when I open Defender, it's just a black screen. I've waited for about 20 minutes, but it remains blank, please help.

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST).

https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/

Download this Fixlist.txtto the same folder.

  • If your computer language is not English, rename FRST64.exe to FRST64English.exe
  • Run FRST and press "Scan"
  • When that finishes run FRST and press "Fix"
  • There should now be three logs created in the folder that FRST is run from, FRST.txt, Addition.txt and Fixlog.txt
  • Upload the logs to OneDrive, Google Drive or any file sharing service and post the share link

Note: If you are downloading FRST with Edge, smartscreen will initially block it.

Click on the 3 dots next to the warning and select Keep-> Show more-> Keep anyway.

Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10/11 build are you running - 22H2 (Win 10/Win 11) or 23H2 (Win 11)?

I understand you’re having problems with defender, Don’t worry as I’ll do my best to assist you today.

Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:

    SFC /SCANNOW
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    Check for any Windows updates.
