PC crashes while doing nothing

Hello everyone,

since some time my PC started crashing while doing nothing. It happens mostly when I go away from some time, come back to my room and see my PC restarted. Also this happened some times when I was in my room but was working on other devices (so again a crash while doing nothing). My temporary solution is to start a program that automatically moves my mouse every second. This helps for now but its no long term solution though.

This is my setup:

CPU: Intel Core i7 13700K
Mainboard: Gigabyte Z790 AORUS ELITE AX
Memory: 2x 32GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6400 DIMM CL32
GPU: Nvidia RTX 4080 (Gigabyte Gaming OC Aktiv)

Power: 1200 Watt be quiet! power supply

Storage: 2TB SSD Samsung 990 Pro M.2 (Windows is installed here) and

4TB Crucial P3 Plus M.2

I think, but I'm not 100% sure, that this issue happens since I updated the GPU Firmware over the Gigabyte Control Center. Would it be possible to downgrade that firmware again or is that a risky idea?

After a crash the system files a critical error in the events monitor. Most of the time its this error code:

  • <Event xmlns="**http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event**">
  • <System> <Provider Name="Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power" Guid="{331c3b3a-2005-44c2-ac5e-77220c37d6b4}" /><EventID>41</EventID><Version>9</Version><Level>1</Level><Task>63</Task><Opcode>0</Opcode><Keywords>0x8000400000000002</Keywords><TimeCreated SystemTime="2024-01-20T02:18:24.7940524Z" /><EventRecordID>27401</EventRecordID><Correlation /><Execution ProcessID="4" ThreadID="8" /><Channel>System</Channel><Computer>Desktop-Daniel</Computer><Security UserID="S-1-5-18" /></System>
  • <EventData> <Data Name="BugcheckCode">0</Data><Data Name="BugcheckParameter1">0x0</Data><Data Name="BugcheckParameter2">0x0</Data><Data Name="BugcheckParameter3">0x0</Data><Data Name="BugcheckParameter4">0x0</Data><Data Name="SleepInProgress">0</Data><Data Name="PowerButtonTimestamp">0</Data><Data Name="BootAppStatus">0</Data><Data Name="Checkpoint">0</Data><Data Name="ConnectedStandbyInProgress">false</Data><Data Name="SystemSleepTransitionsToOn">0</Data><Data Name="CsEntryScenarioInstanceId">0</Data><Data Name="BugcheckInfoFromEFI">false</Data><Data Name="CheckpointStatus">0</Data><Data Name="CsEntryScenarioInstanceIdV2">0</Data><Data Name="LongPowerButtonPressDetected">false</Data><Data Name="LidReliability">false</Data><Data Name="InputSuppressionState">0</Data><Data Name="PowerButtonSuppressionState">0</Data><Data Name="LidState">3</Data></EventData> </Event>

Some errors do have different values. I can post the complete logs but that would be extremly long. Can i somehow create a spoiler or just upload the XML-File?

I also tried to contact the Microsoft Support but the employee didn't really seemed to have a plan. They reduced my screen resolution, than went to change the size of the swamp file but just changed a setting and changed it back. Repeated that 4 times and called it a day. After a system restart they didnt respond to, if a different language would be easier so I ended that session.

I am thankful for every help. This issue really annoys me and running a mouse moving program as a solution cant be it.

Sincerely,

Daniel

Alright, I did that. Verifier told me to restart the PC, I did that, got 2 Bluescreens, Windows started in Repair-Mode. I than went into safe-mode and executed the command you wrote. What now? Was that intended?

I do not see ani indication of the cause of the system shutdown in those events, it just indicates an incorrect shut down with generic codes.

To try to force Windows 11 show any faulting drivers, the best option would be to turn on Driver Verifier, let your PC crash 3 times, then you must turn off Driver Verifier, and finally, upload any newly created minidump files

Before you run Driver Verifier, please create a new System Restore Point

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Note, if you have any difficulty getting into Windows with Driver Verifier enabled:

Start your PC, just as Windows attempts to load (spinning dots), press and hold Power Button for 5 - 10 seconds to perform a Hard Shut Down

    Do this twice

On the third start Windows will boot into the Recovery Environment and from there you can access System Repair, Safe Mode, Command Prompt... etc.

Go to Troubleshoot - Advanced Option - Startup Settings and click Restart

Upon restart, press 4 to enter Safe Mode

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run these two commands, then restart your PC.

    verifier /reset

    verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Please check to see if your PC is producing any minidump files, I will check those to see if they provide any insight into a potential cause of the system crashes.

    Open Windows File Explorer.

    Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump

Copy any minidump files onto your Desktop, then zip those up.

Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox... etc.), then choose to share those and get a share link.

Then post the link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you.
