Application Error

Application popup: Agent.exe - Application Error : The instruction at 0x0000000000DB776E

referenced memory at 0x000000000E6B8000. The memory could not be written.

I used /scannow and it came back with corrupt files unable to fix them. I ran a memory test and nothing was detected.

I freshly factory reset this pc because it had previous issues of randomly restarting for no reason. I have not ran into the issue after the reset but this error is making me worried that the issue is bigger than I thought.

    Hi, Dylan Joyner

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

The error you’re seeing is often related to issues with software, drivers, or potentially faulty memory. However, since you’ve already run a memory test with no issues detected, and a System File Check (SFC) did find corrupt files but was unable to fix them, here are some steps you can take:

    1. Run DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management): This tool can fix Windows corruption errors that the System File Checker can’t. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and type the following commands one by one, hitting Enter after each: DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    2. Check for Driver Updates: Make sure all your drivers, especially your graphics driver, are up to date. You can update them via Device Manager or by visiting the manufacturer’s website.
    3. Reinstall the Problematic Software: If you know which software the “Agent.exe” is related to, consider reinstalling that software.
    4. Run a Full Antivirus Scan: Even if you’ve recently done a factory reset, it’s still worthwhile to run a scan to rule out any potential malware causing issues.
    • Open Windows Defender: Click the Start button, then type “Windows Security” into the search bar, and click on the app when it appears in the search results.
    • Go to Virus & Threat Protection: In the Windows Security window, click on “Virus & threat protection” in the sidebar on the left.
    • Start a New Advanced Scan: Under the “Current threats” section, click on “Scan options” (or “Run a new advanced scan”).
    • Select Full Scan: You’ll see several options for types of scans. Click the radio button for “Full scan” to select it, then click “Scan now” to start the full system scan. The scan will take some time to complete because it’s checking all files and programs in your system. Make sure to leave your computer on and plugged in until the scan is finished. When the scan is complete, Windows Defender will show a summary of the results. If any threats were found, follow the recommended actions provided by Windows Defender. If there is anything not clear or I can't understand your problem, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards

I receive this prompt whenever I go to access virus & threat protection. I have gone through my emails and no school accounts are connected. I do not have a third part anti-virus installed. Drivers, BIOS are all updated, I found the agent.exe error program and uninstalled it. However no I am receiving the previous issue from before my factory reset. I am getting random shutdowns and these are the correlated errors.
