PCI Memory Controller and SM Bus Controller in Device Manager are missing (Hardware Ids and Problem codes in Description)

I recently had to reinstall windows completely after it's been corrupted and after reinstalling I noticed this when going into Device Manager.

I know they are intel devices but I already used their tool on the web to scan my system and update the appropriate drivers but it didn't worked. I also tried to go to my motherboard's manufacturer to download and install all the latest w10 drivers and that also didn't worked.

I don't know if theses are related but I also tried to download the optional updates that are given in windows update to see if it fixed it but nothing changed.

Tried updating drivers from the web but windows didn't find anything.

For additional informations, here are both the detailed properties of the devices :

PCI controller :

SM memory bus controller :

Here are my system's specs :

  • Processor: Intel Core I7 6700K (4,0 GHz)
  • GPU: KFA Geforce GTX 1080 EXOC
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Maximus VIII HERO
  • RAM: 40 Go GSkill Ripjaws V 2x16 Go + 2x4 Go, DDR4 3200Mhz CAS 16
  • SSD: HyperX Fury 240 Go SATA III
  • SSHD: Seagate Desktop SSHD 1 To
  • SSD : 500 Go
  • SSD M.2 : 1 To
  • Powersupply: Zalman ZM750-EBT, 750W

Thank you very much if you can help me resolve this issue cause I tried everything that came to my mind.

    Hi, Layfon_448

    Welcome to the MicroSoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your Device Manager. The PCI Memory Controller and SM Bus Controller are important components of your system, and it's crucial that they function properly. The SM Bus Controller is part of the motherboard chipset. To resolve this issue, you'll need to install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard. These can usually be found on the manufacturer's website. I've found the official link to download the drivers for you and suggest you reinstall the following drivers:

    [MAXIMUS VIII HERO|Motherboards|ASUS Canada](https://www.asus.com/ca-en/motherboards-components/motherboards/all-series/maximus-viii-hero/helpdesk_download?model2Name=MAXIMUS-VIII-HERO "www.asus.com")

    Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion but as stated I my original post I've already tried to install the latest chips et drivers from asus. The operation validated without any problem but even after a restart the errors from sm bus controller and pci controller still shows as missing.

Can the device manager be wrong and just show they're missing when they're installed?

    Hi, Layfon_448

I'm sorry I'm late to the party, the reason why I still gave the advice to download the drivers even after seeing you mention that you've already downloaded the drivers from the official website is because the problem is a very clear one - a chipset driver failure. Device Manager is unlikely to error out, and this is a very clear driver issue that has nothing to do with the Windows product. What leaves me speechless is that the motherboard's official website doesn't seem to be very reliable, and in view of this situation I recommend trying to download Intel's official program Identify Detect Your Hardware and installing the drivers it provides.

If this program doesn't work, please keep me informed and I'll provide you with other ideas for a solution.

    Best Regards
