Hi, I am the developer of Author and Reader (for macOS) using the Visual-Meta approach to metadata.

http://visual-meta.info

Visual-Meta is a simple way to add BibTeX citation information to a document which then cane be used when a user copies text: The BibTeX citation information is appended to the clipboard with the copied text so that when this is pasted into a word processor which understand Visual-Meta, it is pasted as a full citation.

This means it will be automatically included in the References on Export and so on.

So my question is, what is the format for pasting a citation into Word? It would be great for our software to produce a payload on the clipboard/copy which when pasted into Word pastes as a full citation.

Do you know if this is possible? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

The site for the software is https://www.augmentedtext.info BTW.

    @Frode Hegland ,

    Based on research, “automatically included in the References on Export” is not available in Word for Mac currently.

    You may need to add a source to your document manually before adding a citation, a works cited list, or a bibliography.

    Here is a related official article “Add or change sources, citations, and bibliographies”, you may have a look.

    Any misunderstandings and updates, please feel to let me know.

    Thank you very much for this Emily.

    Is there a way a citation source can be added as part of a paste into Word do you know? If you don't mind, this is the workflow we have, so you can see what I mean: https://youtu.be/ZVBEWmxUils if you have time to watch it.

    In Microsoft Word, citations are typically formatted using a specific referencing style, such as APA (American Psychological Association), MLA (Modern Language Association), Chicago , or others of How To Build Local Citations?. Each citation style has its own rules regarding how citations should be formatted, including the order and format of elements like author names, titles, publication dates, and page numbers. Here's a general guide on how to format citations in Word:
