What is Windows 10 update sequence? I restarted using a computer that had been idle since 2017. It is at version 1607. Update started a series of updates that included some very recent updates., the last of which failed. It is now trying the 2018-04 update. hopefully it works. Is there a way I can take control of the process and duplicate the sequence that would have occurred if the computer had been kept in service?

HI, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

There will be no way to duplicate the sequence of updates required, your Windows version is 7 years out of date and all normal methods to update will fail, most likely the only option will be to clean install Windows 10 from a newly created bootable USB, but try this method first.

With these major upgrades, the most successful method is to upgrade from the Windows 10 ISO - you download the ISO and then perform an Offline Upgrade

Please follow the steps, this is then just an update and your personal files, settings and installed software will not be affected.

    Click this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), then choose ISO, not USB

When the ISO file completes downloading

    Disconnect from the Internet

Disconnect all external devices with the exception of a mouse or keyboard.

Temporarily disable any 3rd party Anti-virus you may have installed

Then, in Windows File Explorer, double click the ISO and then run Setup.exe and select the upgrade option.
