If you have a lot of software installed and do not want to need to re-install it after you have a problem with Windows, then the best option is to create a disk image with a 3rd party utility, and save that somewhere safe so you can later restore from that backup.
Copy old to new or reset install? Programdata Appdata Registry.
What is needed to copy old programs to new or reset install?
Programdata Appdata Registry? (packagecaches or?)
How do I find and import export the registry and what else is needed?
I'm tired of how much a struggle windows is. By default things are stupid/broken, or get updated to such...
I could have built an arch linux by now from knowing nothing.
Literally have done that. It was quicker, better experience than windows11.
But I am using apps and things that rely on libraries and and which linux can't emulate and is even worse in virtual environment. Win 7 was also easier to use and setup at the time.

When you install software into Windows, the installer created by the software developers installs files into many locations on the drive and also creates many registry keys, the process is different for each application you install.
It is not possible to backup or recreate all the files and registry keys created by the installer, that is why it is necessary to re-install your software after you re-install or reset Windows.
