Programs Stop Responding When Trying to Access Files.

When trying to open files, the program attempting to open the file will slow down for around a minute and causes the program to be unresponsive. This can even cause file explorer to stop responding on occasion. After successfully opening a file, the program Is able to open other files without slowdown until closed and reopened. This Is consistent across every program that I've tried Including windows programs.

Attempting to copy, move, or delete files also prompts the same behavior and has a greater chance for file explorer itself to be unresponsive.

When booting my pc in safe mode, this problem is non-existent and programs can open and write to files without any slowdown.

I've decided to bite the bullet and I've tested through every service In the services tab of system configuration. I've found that the problem Is a microsoft service simply titled "server". Disabling this has completely fixed the problem but I can't find any information about it online as wouldn't you know it: searching for "server microsoft corporation" only yields results for the company's server hosting services and not the windows service.

As of now, my problem is solved, but I don't know if disabling this service will cause future problems on my pc. I suppose only time will tell and by then I likely may not recognize the root cause of the issues. At the very least, browsing files, deleting folders, and saving new files takes only moments once again instead of the many agonizing minutes along with the potential chance of file explorer crashing on me and taking a full ten minutes to reboot.

I tried booting in clean boot mode and the problem was still there. I also had to temporarily uninstalled my antivirus as It would re-enable itself every time I tried to disable it.

The problem still persists and I've yet to find a solution myself as most others just say to perform the steps In the original reply.

Hi, thank you for the feedback and for following the instructions. Deleting temporary files may improve performance and fix issues with app or program responses. I noticed that everything seems to be okay when you are in Safe Mode. A third-party antivirus or program may be causing this issue. I suggest starting your PC in Clean Boot mode: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t...

Verify if the problem is still there. If it's resolved, follow the same steps and turn on each service one by one until you identify the one causing the issue. Thank you.

Thank you for your response. The issue first started a few weeks ago when I went to disable microsoft's telemetry again after It had re-enabled Itself.

I've ran DISM and SFC and found that there were no corrupted files. Restarting the system after this still yielded the Issues. I'm not quite certain what you were trying to achieve with instructing me to open the temp file folders, but I've tried deleting the files that I could within each folder. Windows consistently gives me absurd times for how long (upwards of ten hours) It will take to delete those files and file explorer eventually crashes after not responding. Restarting my pc after deleting what files I could still did not help.

I would like to reiterate that my problem still Is not present when booting In safe mode, but Is present when booting normally.

Hi RomayneMarcel. My name is Lester, and I am an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry that you are experiencing this issue. I'd be more than happy to assist you.

When was the issue started? Are there any changes made before the issue?

In the meantime, please try these steps and see if the issue persists:

    1. Please run DISM and SFC to Check and Repair Corrupted System Files

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/usi...

    Go to Run.

Type the following locations one by one and press Enter:

    C:\Windows\Temp

    %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

    Restart your PC then check

I hope this information is helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any more questions. Thank you
