Intermittent Keyboard Issues

Hi all,

I am currently experiencing intermittent issues with the in-built keyboard on my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 14IIL05 where a select few keys on the keyboard on a given stroke will either print 1 2 3 or even 4 characters or no character at all. So when typing with these keys, it is almost like a random lottery as to whether I will get 4 characters or zero. The keys affected are the z x c v m , . enter keys, while all other keys work completely normal. In some situations there are no issues, but the issue is mostly present.

An external keyboard works perfectly fine, but is inconvenient to use.

I have explored the internet for potential solutions, and so far I have tried uninstalling keyboard drivers, adjusting the repeat rate, and cleaning the affected keys but to avail.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Hi, I am Dave, I will help you with this.

From your description, it sounds like a physical problem with that keyboard, not a software issue.

    1
Open Command Prompt, then run this command to open the keyboard troubleshooter, does that find any problem?

    msdt.exe -id KeyboardDiagnostic

    2
Connect an external keyboard to your laptop, does that work correctly?

Bring up the on-screen keyboard, does that work correctly?

    1 - no problem

2 - all working perfectly fine

If an external keyboard and the on-screen keyboard are working correctly, then there is a hardware issue with the internal keyboard, and it needs to be replaced, this is not a software issue.
