I'm very sorry for the bad news but recently Microsoft blocked Windows 10/11 activation with Windows 7/8 product keys.

Hi,
I am having difficulty activating Windows on my new PC.
I recently completely rebuilt my PC, but before I did, I created a bootable USB on a genuine copy of Windows 10, which was itself upgraded from a genuine copy of Windows 7 (I still have the original box and product key).
As far as I recall, I only used my Windows 7 key once, when installing it - and never needed to reinstall or use the key again once I upgraded to 10.
The upgrade to 10 was the free one that Microsoft offered some years ago.
Out of interest, after I created my bootable USB I was curious to find if the activation key in the system (via command prompt / registry location) was the same (they were not), regardless, I copied both down, expecting to need them.
Now I have my new build PC up and running I am seeing that I am unable to activate my copy of Windows. Neither my original Windows 7 key nor the key found on my Windows 10 install work.
Any help or advice really appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Igor,
Thanks for your reply - that's really a shame, it looks like I was late only by about a month.
Best Regards.
