Error message - another "Problem Ejecting USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" in Wiondows 10

Neither of two external disk drives will eject from my Windows 10 laptop but both will eject from two other Windows 10 laptops. All laptops are current for updates. Error message is "Problem Ejecting USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" (see screenshot). I have followed several suggested solutions both from this Community and from YouTube but without success. I have noticed that I am not able to switch either of the drives to “Offline” in Disk Management, as many of the solutions suggest I should do. The reason I cannot do that is because when I right-click on the disk , “Offline” does not appear on the popup as an option (see screen shot). I have no idea where to go next. Any suggestions or guidance will be gratefully accepted.

    Hello ColNic93.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that you can't disconnect your external hard driver and get an error message

"Problem Ejecting USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device"

The reason behind this issue seems to be related to a process using your external hard drive. You can go to

Event Viewer -> Custom Views -> Administrative Events to check if there are any relevant events.

By clicking on an event, it will provide you with the PID of the process using your external hard drive.

Go to the Task Manager, close that process, and then try again to see if it resolves your issue.

Thanks for getting back to me on this, Tommy. I could not find any relevant event when I plugged in the USB disk drive. I then tried to eject it and two warning events registered. Here is the snip of those warnings.

Here are the details for the second warning.

I went into Task Manager and found the process. Here is the snip.

Task Manager was not able to stop this process. Access is denied.

Here is the snip for the other warning which tells me my McAfee application is stopping the ejection of the USB disk drive.

Here it is in Task Manager.

Task Manager is unable to stop this process. Access is denied.

I use McAfee on our other two laptops and it does not prevent ejection of the same USB disk drives on those computers so I am puzzled about why this computer? I can connect a thumb drive and eject it without problems so it seems that only external disk drives are affected. I don't know where to go next to solve this. Any ideas?

    Hello ColNic93.

    Thanks for your reply.

This incident clearly indicates that McAfee is accessing data on your USB drive. It is possible that certain protective features of

McAfee are running, and typically, you cannot disable McAfee through the Task Manager due to the security software's protection mechanisms.

Please temporarily uninstall your McAfee and see if the issue still occurs. Also, please check if you have set up virtual memory on your USB drive.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Best Regards,
