External monitor displaying with incorrect resolution - no other options available

Hello,

I have a laptop running Windows 11 which I have been using alongside an external monitor, connected by a cable. I was using a cable with HDMI (laptop end) and VGA (monitor end) but started having problems (could have coincided with an update?) so changed to a new cable with HDMI at both ends and have had problems since then.

My monitor should display at 1920x1080 but is set to 640x480 in display settings, and this is grey and can't be changed. I am up to date with updates for Windows, my laptop and my graphics driver.

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad and an Iiyama ProLite (E2273HDS) external monitor.

This is what I'm seeing in Display Settings, with 1 being my laptop.

And, this is what the resolution settings for Display 2 look like

    Hi Lester,

thank you for your kind offer of support with this matter. I started to work my way down through the list in the link that you sent, and nothing changed, but then a friend brought their monitor round and my laptop communicated with it perfectly - so, it looks like it was the monitor that was the problem. I have a replacement monitor on the way. I really should have found a way to check this first, but assumed that monitors were fairly basic and rarely created problems.

    Thank you again.
