Hi Kevin,
Try creating another user and check if that is working. Sometimes the username has issues or the password to connect. This is quite common and setting up a different PC name works most of the time,

Hi there,
I've created a shared folder, done the Properties>sharing>share with everyone steps.
I go to the My Files app on my phone, it finds the IP, the port, and I go to connect using my windows username and password but it says it can't connect.
I'm not sure exactly what's causing the error but I feel like it might be the username piece?
There's a field for a nickname as well but not positive if thats an issue.
The phone is a Samsung s23+, so nothing crazy there.

Thanks Sabya,
So that's where things are tripping me up and prompted the request for help.
I've been wanting to just login using my windows credentials so that it's shared just with me it anyone I share that with (like my spouse).
But something seems off with the username and password when I try to connect to the shared drive using my windows login.
If I unprotect in the settings, it works because no password is required but I'm just trying to figure out why my windows credentials don't give me access as I would expect.
Hi Kevin,
Yes that is also a method for transfer. However for that to work you will have to be connected to the same network.
You can refer to the third party websites on the process -
https://cyber.olympiadsuccess.com/hacks/access-...
This process uses the LAN to help you connect the mobile to the pc.
Please note when you are sharing the file with everyone other people or even hackers can get access to those files. So please be mindful of what you are sharing and it doesn't contain information that may harm you if stolen.

Hi Sabya,
Thanks for looking to help. So I'm familiar with transferring files via Bluetooth or USB.
What I'm looking to do is have a shared folder on my local machine accessible to my android phone so that I can push videos or pictures or docs between the two.
Not exclusively file transfer but more file access and transfer as needed so that I've got local copies there so I can free up phone space and still have the videos of the kids and things more easily accessible than just on the cloud.
I've seen folks (on youtube) do this through the file manager app so I was trying that instead of asking my phone to run an application to duplicate the whole screen, etc.
Hi Kevin,
Sabya here, Independent Windows Adviser. Hope you are doing well.
Are you trying to send files from your pc to the phone?
There are multiple ways of doing it -
Using USB cable
Using bluetooth or wifi transfer
Using application
Using onedrive
The way you are trying to connect is by using remote desktop protocol to access the shared folder. With the RDP application in android you can connect to your pc and view the screen in your mobile.
If you are trying to transfer data from your mobile to the pc you can use the Phone link app of Microsoft.
