About 6 months ago I used to get blue screen error VIDEO DXGKERNEL ERROR when playing specific games like plateup or automachef and believed it was a unity game engine issue. After roughly 1 hour or 2 hours the pc would crash and restart consistently but after a week it stopped

And now again after 6 months I'm getting a video dxgkernel error in about 5 mins of startup consistently and after the blue screen the screen becomes black and no changes my keyboard lights work after which I force shutdown and start it up again then the fans spin for 2 secs then stop and black screen again multiple times it happens consistently back to back

At some point it restarts itself after powering on and works but it goes back to video dxg kernel error

If i force shutdown in middle of blue screen i cam avoid black screen but still get video dxg kernel error

Tries updating windows updating drivers cleaning fans etc

Model: Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45

AMD ryzen 7 5800h

Rtx 3060

Windows 10

Note: I can avoid getting blue screen if i connect to an external display for the first 10 mins of startup then unplug display and continue as normal

I use a 12 Hr clock format and in startup login screen my pc gives me a 24 hr format and then switches to 12 Hr format however if it doesn't switch from 24hr to 12hr format in 5 sec of startup I'm almost guaranteed to get video dxg kernel error

I believe Acer also rolled out a vbios update to increase TDP of GPU from 90 to 95W if this has any significance but this was about 1 and half year ago

I did DDU yesterday and so far it seems to be fine

But why does the error not occur when I'm connected to an external display. Do you have any idea?

The minidump files indicated the file "nvlddmkm.sys". This file is related to the NVidia graphics card.

    Please try the following.

    1. Install the latest Windows updates.
    2. Update or Rollback the NVidia driver in the Device Manager.

Open Device Manager >> click Display Adapters >> right- click your NVidia driver >> click Update Driver.

If the system says that you have the latest driver installed. Try to Roll back the driver. Right-click your NVidia driver >> click Properties >> click Driver tab >> click Roll back driver.

    1. Use the NVidia Geforce Experience Software to update the driver.
    2. Clean uninstall the currently installed NVidia driver using DDU then download and install the available driver from the PC manufacturer's/NVidia support website.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

    Hi Crystallazer,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Can you share the minidump files?

    1. Open Windows File Explorer
    2. Go to C:\Windows\Minidump
    3. Zip those files
    4. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.).
    5. Then share the link here.

If you can't get it in normal boot, try to boot in Safe Mode.

    Refer to the link below.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta...

Let me know how it goes then we will proceed from there.

    Thanks.
