Browser doesn't open when a hyperlink is opened from inside app (Therefore) (OpenWith.exe fault)

Hello,

I am having an issue with a user, using the Therefore application.

As part of using this application, certain functions open up within a web browser to use/complete.

Therefore is supposed to use whatever your default browser is set as, and open in that.

However, pressing the button which is supposed to open the browser does nothing.

If I reset the default app settings to default, the application will open Edge once, and then not again if tried.

The following is the details of the failed event in event manager:

Faulting application name: OpenWith.exe, version: 10.0.22621.1778, time stamp: 0xa4f8c88d

Failing module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.22621.2215, time stamp: 0x7a9f67f2

Exception code: 0xc0000409

Fault offset: 0x000000000008ea6f

Faulting process ID: 0x0x4C20

Faulting application start time: 0x0x1D9EFACC6849979

Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\OpenWith.exe

Failing module path: C:\Windows\System32\ntdll.dll

Report ID: da163599-0a33-4e45-a5f9-a616f12a1e9c

Faulting package full name:

Faulting package-relative application ID:

After seeing this, I tried replacing OpenWith.exe from a clean build into this machine and restarting. This fixed the issue for approximately 2 hours and then broke again, and is back to square one.

Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, Harry Ross1

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Please verify that your security software (such as firewall or antivirus) is not blocking the OpenWith.exe file or the browser from launching. You can try temporarily disabling your security software and see if the problem persists. Keep in mind that if you do so, your device may be vulnerable to threats. So please turn it on immediately once issue fixed. If it does not, then you need to adjust the settings of your security software to allow the OpenWith.exe file and the browser to run properly.

You can also perform a clean boot to identify any potentially interfering programs running in the background. If your problem does not occur while the computer is in a clean boot environment, then you can determine which startup application or service is causing the problem by systematically turning them on or off and restarting the computer. Detailed steps can be found here:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support

In addition, use System File Checker to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files:

Let me know if you have any other concerns.

    Best regards
