format feature not there

Question

I have a dell xps 8940 running windows 11 (10.0.22621)...when in insert a cd-r or dvd-r and select the drive...the format option is missing...how do i format a new disk

the drive description is ATA PLDS DVD+/-RW DU-8A5LH

i have see a few videos with reg edits..but they did not resolve the issue

is this a dell thing or microsoft?

Thanks. We can try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Press Windows+R keys on the keyboard, or Right-click Start on the Taskbar and choose Run.

Type devmgmt.msc

Press Enter.

Expand DVD drives and right click the device.

Choose uninstall.

Restart the PC.

See if the issue resolves.

Thanks...but yes I already tried that. i used a new external drive (thinking my internal was bad) but if failed on my machine.. was also placed on my wifes pc (also running windows 11) where i was able use it to format cd & dvd. But I cannot copy any files to the formatted disks when connected to my dell machine.
