So, I just moved a bunch of files from downloads to another folder. I indexed that folder, it seems to be just fine if i dont sort the files, but when I do sort them by date, it still loads. When this was in downloads and was sorted by date it did load. How do I fix this?

    Hi Denis,

I am John J.D., a fellow Microsoft user like you.

I understand that you're experiencing issues with indexing when sorting files by date on Windows 10. I'm here to help!

There are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve this problem.

First, I recommend checking for updates and installing any available updates for your operating system. Sometimes, updates can fix issues with Windows Search.

    > Settings.

    > Windows Update.

    > Check for updates.

Install any available updates, and then restart your computer if the updates require it.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, you can use the Search and Indexing troubleshooter. This tool can help identify and fix any problems related to search and indexing on your system. You can find the steps to run the troubleshooter and other troubleshooting steps in this Microsoft support article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/...

There is also specific steps available in that link you can follow if you particular Windows 10 is version is 1809 and earlier or version 1903 and later

I hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue with indexing and sorting by date. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask. Let's work together to until we resolve it.

    Best regards,

    John J.D.

I apologize for the confusion. Seems like the issue is more complicated than I thought and I'm afraid I'm running out of ideas. I'll let other experts take over and share their ideas.

The issue is that when I manually indexed this folder in the indexing settings, it still has to manually load and then also sort by date all the files (As i mentioned, before I sorted them by date it didnt have to manually load them), And when all those files were in downloads, before I moved them to this folder I made, they didnt have to manually load even when It was sorted by date. I ran troubleshoot and it didnt seem to help.

Hi there, I'm Erfan and I'll be happy to help!

Please take the troubleshooting steps that I mentioned below for addressing the issue:

Check for file system errors: Run a disk check or file system repair utility on the drive where the folder is located. This can help identify and fix any potential issues with the file system that might be causing the loading problem.

Clear file indexing cache: If you're using a desktop search tool or an operating system that relies on file indexing (like Windows Search or Spotlight on macOS), try clearing the indexing cache. This can be done by accessing the indexing options in your operating system settings and rebuilding the index from scratch.

Rebuild thumbnail cache: If the loading issue is specifically related to file thumbnails, try rebuilding the thumbnail cache. In Windows, you can do this by going to Disk Cleanup, selecting your drive, and checking the "Thumbnails" option. Then click "OK" to delete the existing thumbnail cache and allow it to rebuild.

Disable unnecessary sorting options: If you're using a file manager or explorer that offers various sorting options, try disabling any unnecessary sorting criteria. This can help reduce the load on the system when sorting a large number of files.

Split files into subfolders: If you have a large number of files in the folder, consider splitting them into smaller subfolders. Sorting a large number of files at once can be resource-intensive, so organizing them into smaller groups may help improve performance.

Check for software updates: Ensure that your operating system, file manager, or any relevant software is up to date. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements that may resolve the loading issues.

If you've tried the above steps and the problem persists, it might be helpful to provide more specific details about the operating system, file manager, or software you're using so that I can provide further assistance.

    I hope this helps :)
