Persistent Incorrect Automatic GPU/Audio Driver Updates after Screen Turns Off Despite Disabling Windows Driver Updates

Every time my screen turns off, my GPU and audio drivers autimatically update to versions that I don't want and I have to reboot my PC to get the screen back on. After that I have to update them back to the correct versions, and sometimes I have to reboot my PC again due to and audio power error due to the driver which was automatically updated to a wrong version. I've disabeled windows driver updates completely, but it's still happening. I also checked recent driver updates from windows and it's theres no sign that its actually windows that incorrectly updating my drivers. But I don't understand how this is happening then because I don't have any automatic driver update apps, except for the stock AMD Adrenalin one which has the correct drivers. Any help?

    Hi Virginia,

    Thank you for your response.

    I am using Windows 11 Pro 22H2.

I am sure that windows is not updating the drivers, and if it is, no only should it not be able to but also it does't show up in the history.

Also I don't have any driver update software other than AMD Adrenalin which has the drivers I want and the GPU is AMD.

I tried the windows update minitool but none of the updates showed up on there and I couldnt use it for this specifici matter.

Also, the MS tool link doesnt seem to work for me not sure why.

Any idea how to solve the issue? Thank you

Hello, I’m Virginia, a fellow user like yourself.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10/11 build are you running - 21H2 or 22H2?

Double check that the PC isn’t set to automatically download drivers. If you’re 100% sure that Windows isn’t doing this then do you have any driver updater software installed or any antivirus or other software which may include a driver updater like CCleaner?

Is the GPU nVidia, Intel or AMD? If nVidia or Intel then check that their software isn’t automatically installing the updates.

You can use this MS tool to show & hide problematic drivers or updates:

    http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/2/2/F2...

You can also try the windows update minitool to block that particular update permanently:

https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/window.... Please not this will not prevent further updates to Windows or Drivers - only the problematic update/driver will be blocked from downloading to prevent the problems you’re experiencing.
