Change default file extension for application

I am using the windows 11 photo app. The default file extension is .NEF. Is there a way to change this to .TIFF or some other format? I use a photo editing tool that will not open .NEF and it means exporting the file and saving as to change the extension. I would like the Windows Photo app to default when opening any/all files to the .TIFF extension.

Thank you in advance.

    Hi Dave,

I'm embarrassed! I am new to both photography and photo editing. Apparently I have a lot to learn.

    Thank you so much!

    Don

    Hi Don,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

The Photos app in Windows does not default to the NEF file type, that is a file type used by Nikon digital cameras, did you download photos from a Nikon camera to your PC and they appeared in the Photos app in that format?
