Getting Error 0x800f081f When Installing Windows 10 Update (KB5028166)

Been getting 0x800f081f error constantly while trying to install the KB5028166 update for Windows 10.

Things I have tried so far:

  • Windows Update Troubleshooter (can't identify the problem)
  • sfc /scannow (doesn't find any integrity violations)
  • DISM Restore Health (operation completes successfully)
  • Online Updater (thinks my Windows is already up to date)
  • Manual install from catalog (fails to install)
  • Manual reset of windows update components (using Net stop/start commands)

Here is the CBS.log file generated after the failed installation attempts: CBS.log

Any help and suggestions are appreciated

    I can see here that you've done some troubleshooting steps already, thanks for sharing that. I will suggest you to perform in place upgrade or run a repair. In place upgrade will install the new features or available updates for Windows it will also fix corrupted system files. Kindly check the steps below:

    Please go to:

    Note: Please disable 3rd party anti virus. Please make sure to read the steps carefully. You will be needing to click Download Tool Now and not the Update Now option. Please watch the video attached for your reference.

    Under Create Windows 10 Installation Media

    Click Download Tool Now

    Click on Run

    Allow the User account Control

    Read the License Terms and hit Accept if you agree

    Choose Upgrade this PC now and hit Next

    Please make sure that it shows keep files and apps and hit Next

    This may take sometime depends on your connection or the performance of your device. Kindly plug in your charger to avoid interruption.
