Antimalware Service Executable high CPU usage

Hello,

The process Antimalware Service Executable is always on and consuming at least a 40% of my CPU.

This started to happen a couple of months ago a bit, but now it is continuous.

I have tried the different solutions posted in this community but none of them work for me (I guess because it is home edition).

I have Windows 10 Home v.10.0.19044 Build 19044 on an XPS 15 9560.

Please I need a solution for this before my CPU melts.

Best,
Francisco

Hi, and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand the issue you have, there is nothing to worry I am here to help, this issue happens when there are third-party services interrupting the Anti-malware services or it is detecting any malware on the PC which makes the Windows security running and scan and results to high CPU usage, for us to sort out the problem, kindly follow the steps below:

    Method 1. Do clean boot:

A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, so that you can determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program.

    • In the search box on the taskbar, type msconfig and select System Configuration from the results.
    • On the Services tab of System Configuration, select Hide all Microsoft services, and then select Disable all.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select Open Task Manager.
    • Under Startup in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then select Disable.
    • Close Task Manager.
    • On the Startup tab of System Configuration, select OK. When you restart the computer, it's in a clean boot environment.

Method 2. Repair Windows apps and Windows Defender:

On Powershell(admin), copy and paste the command below and hit enter:

    Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

    restart the PC and check

    Method 3. Reinstall Windows Defender

Open the registry, then go to

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender

Then delete the Windows Defender folder, restart the PC, and recheck it.

Let me know how it goes and I hope that helps.

    Bernard
