Power surge on the USB port

Question

Hello I'm getting this Error

Power surge on the USB port – Unknown USB Device needs more power than the port can supply.

A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device.

I tried:

-troubleshoot

-to delete Universal Serial Bus Controllers from device manager and restart a computer

-to update windows

but nothing works. I have nothing connected to usb.

I think that maybe reinstall windows should solve this problem.

so how can i fix it?

Did you managed to solve the problem?

I'm having the same issue on my laptop and it is draining the battery faster than usual.

Even when the laptop is turned off for a day I could feel that it's a bit warm on the underneath left hand side (near the USB ports).

I get this error when there is nothing plugged in the USB.

I tried updating the USB drivers, uninstalling the drivers, re-installing the drivers but none of those methods worked.

I noticed that even when uninstall the USB device from device manager it will auto install itself when I press the sleep button to let the laptop sleep for a few seconds.

Do you reckon that reformatting the laptop would solve this problem?

If nothing is connected to the USB ports, it sounds like something internal to the board or a bad device driver.

Try a BIOS update.

Contact the board manufacture to see if they have seen anything like this.

Based on your descriptions, I think your issue can be a hardware issue, the error message simply said that your device needed more power. USB devices must take only 100/150 mA from VBUS to respond with device descriptors. Here is an article which clearly explain this issue:

To solve this issue, you can:

1) Go to your manufcturer to gain more information about your device limit.

2) A solution to that is a self-powered usb hub which takes its power from an external power supply unit and can therefore provide full power (up to 500 mA) to every port.
