Window's "GPU" selector does not function for me

Hello everyone,

I'm a first-time poster on this forum and I've encountered a problem with Windows' GPU selection feature.

Windows offers a functionality wherein it should ideally select the most suitable GPU for an application, given a choice between two GPUs. The selection parameters are either "High Performance" or "Power Saving".

In my setup, my "High Performance" GPU is an RTX 4070ti, while the "Power Saving" option corresponds to my UHD 770.

The only issue? When I run a game designated for the "Power Saving" GPU (UHD 770), it defaults to using the "High Performance" GPU (RTX 4070ti) instead. This is not the intended behavior.

Here's a summary of the troubleshooting steps I've taken so far:

Updated all relevant drivers.

Unseated and reseated my CPU and GPU.

Attempted a fresh installation of Windows 11 (Same results).

Ensured that all software updates were applied.

Tested with a different CPU and GPU, but still encountered the same problem.

If anyone else has encountered this issue and found a resolution, or has any potential solutions to suggest, I would be incredibly appreciative. I'm open to trying different approaches to resolve this, so feel free to share any ideas you might have.

Thank you in advance for your assistance! :)

    Hello Jace Culp.

    Thanks for your reply.

It seems that the desktop computer doesn't have the feature as the laptop which is called NVIDIA Optimus so it seems hard to use two graphic

    cards like a laptop.

If you can't switch it in Nvidia Control Panel maybe you can try to use the way that other people using the Graphic Card without the output like

    P106.

Connect the HDMI or DP port to the motherboard.

Setting the UHD 770 as the default output in bios. (Different Motherboard have different settings it's mainly in the Advanced -> Chipset

ConfigurationPrimary display set it as IGFX for the detail of this setting you can contact the motherboard's manufactory)

Install the driver of UHD 770.

Now Windows will use the UHD 770 as the default setting try to set it again in Windows and Nvidia Control Panel.

If it works it seems that you will lose at least 10 percent performance when you use the 4070ti.

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

It seems like this feature you're referencing is deprecated and no longer exists. (https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5035/~/run-with-graphics-processor-missing-from-context-menu%3A-change-in-process-of)

Or am I misinterpreting this? I looked through the list and found nothing that would indicate selecting a GPU anymore.

Theoretically, if I had multiple CUDA supported GPUs, I could select them here, but this case does not fit my hardware.

    Hello Jace Culp.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Regarding to your information I assume that the feature of the GPU selector can't work on your computer.

Maybe you can try to change the default graphic card in Nvidia Control Panel.

NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings->Program Settings

If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.
