Problem with external SSD

Hi,
I have a Samsung SSD T7 Portable External SSD. The unit has worked without a problem—I place it into the same USB Port each time…It shows up as (D:) on File Explorer; The files on the unit take up a small amount of space the 2TB.
My Dell runs Windows 10 Home--64-bit OS.

The unit is a back-up to my Samsung SSD T7 Touch which shows up as (F:) on File Explorer. The T7 Touch works perfectly.
Today when I plugged in the SSD T7 Portable External SSD there were no files.
On File Explorer it read:
T7_Set-up (D:).
I placed Portable in different ports and get the same results.

Why would I have to set-up the SSD T7 Portable External SSD a second time?
Why are the files previously saved to the unit missing?
