broken images in Excel ...rld#

My Excel file used to allow me to paste images in a column but now they've all disappeared with this message:
The image part with relationship ID rld1 was not found in the file.

My older backups of the Excel file still show the images I inserted but for whatever reason, my newer files do not.

I read where I should change the 'xls' extension to 'zip' and then examine the 'rls' file within, but the old and new versions of this XML text are identical.

Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Dan

    Hi @Dan Bromberg ,
How did you insert picture in Excel? Paste directly, paste as link, or other ways?
Where did you store the pictures?
Where did you get the Workbook? Did this problem appear in all Workbooks or specific Workbook?
I suggest you try to open it in safe mode running the following command: Press Win + R, type " excel /safe" in the blank box, press Enter. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the add-ins in your excel and disable them.
Click File > Excel Options > Add-Ins on the left side of the dialog. Then click the drop-down arrow at the bottom of the dialog box and select "COM Add-Ins" from the list, then click the GO button. What comes up is a list of COM-Add Ins that are loaded and running.
Try to provide more information and I'm glad to help you.
