What I did was to press the power button on and off 5 times. It them brought black screen. Then troubleshooted with USB installation media. Didn't lose my data. It's back on, works fine and not asking for bit locker key anymore.

Hope this helps another person who encounters the same annoying situation.

    Thanks for the share.

It's actually the Bios update that triggered the bit locker recovery event.

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for that information, the Dell devices are the worst for this problem, many people report the exact same problem, it is the Dell installation image they use that is causing this, because Bitlocker does not exist in the Home edition of Windows and therefore it should not be possible to even activate Bitlocker on your device, but for some unknown reason, that happens on Dell devices.

This is what Dell provide on this problem.

Honestly, this is a terrible situation, because if you cannot find the Bitlocker key on your Microsoft Account, the drive will not be accessible and the only way to resolve this would be to create a bootable Windows 11 USB on another working device and use that to clean install Windows by deleting the partitions on the drive and all data will be lost.

    H Liz,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

If you did not setup encryption on your drive yourself, this can be caused by the disk image the PC manufacturer used to set up the PC initially, this is reported by many people.

Do you know what version (Home, Pro, Education.... etc.) of Windows 11 was originally installed on your PC

Do you have a backup of your personal files or do you use a cloud service like OneDrive, DropBox... etc. to sync your files online?

What is the Make (Dell, Lenovo... etc.) of your PC?
