Task Scheduler-Windows update. How to make it start at PC start after 15 minutes

Windows 10 x64, Task Scheduler.

How/what to edit in the existing Windows-update task so it runs:

  1. daily at PC start (once only, i.e. at first start)
  2. but do that after 10 minutes idle

Idle: so it does not conflict with a program that is creating an WIndows image at startup.

Should I set the "Start the teask only if the computer is idle for...?"

Wait for idle for: do not wait?

Action: C:\WINDOWS\system32\sc.exe start wuauserv

Thanks!

Hello Mike. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Is this for an organization? Please ask Enterprise, organization and server questions to your System Admin, or at our sister forums for IT Professionals, Q&A forums here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/answers/index....

Microsoft Community is strictly an end-consumer forum. Solutions we give here will conflict with the organization''s Group Policy which we do not use in consumer forums at all.

There are also equally good (and sometimes busier) 3rd party IT Pro forums here:

    https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/

    https://www.spiceworks.com/

    I hope it helps.

    Hello Greg,

Thanks for getting back on this.

Please note this is just for myself, as individual user.

I just want to have Windows be updated (if there are any updates of course) at startup.

However, I have 3rd party software that also runs at startup (imaging software), so the update should run thereafter.

Preferably after update, when a reboot is required, then also to perform the reboot.

Have not found a switch for that though.

    (PC is not password protected)

    thanks again.

    Mike -

If you have imaging software running at Startup that you cannot change the schedule for (to shutdown, ideally) then you can try to schedule the task to run when PC is idle.

Since it's Updates, I don't know if it will cooperate. You'll have to test it to see.

All other ways to control Updates are here:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
