Is there a way to monitor Azure SQL Short Term Retention Backups?
Unfortunately, I don't find any options in the metrics and nothing in the Microsoft documentation.
Is it even necessary to monitor this type of backup (because its SAAS) ? I want to be safe here for my customer.

@Fabrice No. You do not have to monitor the short term (Point In Time Restore) backups.
Just configure the PITR retention to your requirement and Azure SQL manages the rest.
