Reinstalling the HP program should fix this problem. I have enclosed a link to the HP Envy 4520 support web page. This page has the programs needed for your printer to work.
First, download the Diagnostic tool-fixes installation and driver issues. This will place HP's scan doctor on the computer. This is great at finding problems.
If this does not work, you will want to download the Installation of software and drivers-includes print, scan, latest features, and solutions. This will reinstall the entire package including the scanner.
