Error code 0x800704cf

Hi there,

Excuse me as I'm not very computer literate but I hope someone can help.

I've been getting an error when trying to open microsoft related programs/log in where nothing will load. This has been going on for a few months now. I've reset network settings and have IPv6 enabled. I've tried searching other threads here however none seem to have similar issues to me.

I tried using my old work vpn and it bypassed all of my issues and it let me load onto microsoft, use xbox gamepass, view the microsoft store etc. Unfortunately I no longer have access to it. I tried using a free (proton) vpn and it didnt seem to fix the issue as howmy work vpn did. Nothing will load and I get the error code 0x800704cf. I can log onto my microsoft account on my phone using my wifi just fine, so I know its not an internet/wifi/service provider issue. It's probably something to do with my PC which I'm not sure exactly what.

Please help!

Thanks

Thanks for reaching out. My name is, Zadee. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

Since you're no longer using any VPN, please make sure your computer is obtaining the IP and DNS automatically.

    1. Press Windows + R
    2. Type ncpa.cpl <Enter>
    3. Double-click the CURRENT connection you are using
    4. Click Properties
    5. Double-click Intemet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/lPv4)
    6. Make sure obtaining the IP and DNS automatically is selected.

If it's already selected, please try performing a network reset.

-Win + R to open run box

    -Type: cmd <Press SHIFT + CTRL + ENTER>

-In the Command Prompt type the following commands:

    Type ipconfig /release (Press enter)

    Type ipconfig /flushdns (Press enter)

Type ipconfig /renew (Press enter) (This will stall for a moment.)

Type netsh int ip reset (Press enter) (Don’t restart yet.)

Type netsh winsock reset (Press enter)

    -Restart computer and test

For testing purposes can you create a new local user profile on your computer, please? Switch to it and test it there and see if it gives you the same results.

You should be able to create the profile under,

    > Settings

    > Account

    > Other users

    > under Other users click Add account

    > I don't have this person sign in info

    > Add user without a MS account.

Then just fill up the fields to name the test account, and follow the process to finish creating the account.

Hi there, I did this and now the internet isn’t working on my PC although it says it’s connected with internet. “This site can’t be reached” “IP address could not be found”. No applications load either. I restarted a second time now it says “no internet, secured”. Please help
