Driver problems after Windows Update

Hi all! I'm facing problems with my laptop after a Windows 10 Update done in November 22.

In particular, the laptop has the following problems:

  • Scratchy audio from speakers (the interface shows a popup saying: "conexant audio device not found");
  • 100% CPU usage in the task manager;
  • Laggy pointer when I use the trackpad, ok with an external mouse.

I solved the problem a first time installing older driver versions, but a Windows Update ruined the system for the second time and now I'm unable to solve it again.

I tried to install:

  • Windows 7 32bit, no problems but unable to find drivers for my computer;
  • Windows 7 64bit, same problems;
  • Windows 8.1 64bit, no problems but some drivers are missing;
  • Windows 10 32bit, no problems but unable to find drivers;
  • Windows 10 64bit, same problems;
  • Windows 11 64bit, same problems.

It seems to be a driver issue, but I'm unable to solve it.

Did anyone face the same issue?

The notebook is a HP EliteBook 840 G3 equipped with a Intel i5-6300u vPro CPU, 16GB RAM and integrated GPU.

Thanks in advance for your support, I hope someone could help me :/

    Hi Johnny. I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

    1. If you can still System Restore to before Update installed or Uninstall the Update in Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Update History, then if that fixes it block the Update: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-s...
    2. Update the Sound controller driver and try all other fixes for Sound here:

    1. Try these fixes for 100% CPU usage:

    1. Try updating driver and all other fixes here for Touchpad:

    1. If nothing else works then Go over Windows using this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

    Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account to replace yours which may be corrupted. Then if necessary continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
