Cannot connect with Wi-fi

Yesterday unable to connect on Wi-Fi with my HP windows 10 laptop for the first time in years. Other devices, including one other computer, connect with no problem. Followed the instructions here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-wi-fi-connection-issues-in-windows-9424a1f7-6a3b-65a6-4d78-7f07eee84d2c#bkmk\_devicetroubleshooting&WindowsVersion=Windows\_10

When clicking on "no internet connection icon", my home connection says "Connecting". When I click on it, and click connect, after a few seconds it says, "Can't connect to this network." I don't see any physical switch for Wi-fi on this laptop.

On the same page, I went through the instructions under "Network troubleshooting on your device". When I entered the command " netsh winsock reset" success was indicated and restarted the computer. When I entered "netsh int ip reset" net all the "resetting replies" were "OK!", except for one which said, "Resetting , failed." The next line is "access is denied." (I'm running the command prompt as Administrator.) Then I restarted. When I type in "ipconfig /release" it replies, "No operation can be performed on Wi-Fi while it has its media disconnected." Same reply to the command "ipconfig /renew". The reply to ipconfig /flushdns is success, but the computer still won't connect.

I didn't "uninstall the network adapter driver and restart" because it said to consider this option if the problem began after an update. I have used Windows 10 for years. What should I try next. Much appreciation for any suggestions.

Gary

I'm glad to hear that the problem was fixed.

If you don't want to upgrade to Windows 11, you can block the upgrade by creating a registry key or using Local Group Policy Editor. You can see how to do it at this link.

I downloaded the HP Support Assistant install file and copied it to my laptop. I saw that the power was low and connected it to power. Then I saw that the Wi-Fi was working! I don't know that it won't happen again, but if it does I can try adding some power, and if necessary, install the Support Assistant. Incidentally, I keep getting notices to upgrade to Windows 11 but I don't because it isn't very fast with Windows 10. Anyway, thanks so much for your help, because of it I didn't worry and felt that everything was going to be fine!

You can use the HP Support Assistant from this link to check if there is any hardware problem on your laptop and install the latest version of the drivers.

I don't see anyplace where I can attach files. But I can insert images. I looked high and low for my manual for the model number of my laptop but couldn't find it. I hope that the model number in the first image has enough digits displayed. Here is the top of the system summary page:

    And here is the bottom:

I didn't find any Wi-Fi drivers listed unless one of the following is one:

Thanks so much for your help! Gary

    Hi, Gary,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue.

This problem is usually caused by an outdated or corrupted driver. Please provide some more details to help to identify what is causing this problem. Which is the full model of your laptop?

Also, attach a screenshot of the System Information Page:

1-Right-click on Start then click on Run

2-Type: msinfo32 and click on Ok

And a screenshot of the version of the driver installed:

1-Right-click on Start then click on Device Manager

2-Click to expand the Network adapters

3-Right-click on the Wifi driver and click on properties

4-Take a screenshot of the General and Driver tab
