How to disable shutdown option only

Hello,

How can I disable\hide shutdown option from start menu, but I want to keep restart option available for end users. Is there a way to accomplish this via GPO?

My goal is to prevent users from powering off their machines.

I don't want to remove the entire shutdown (shutdown, restart, sleep and etc..) options.

Note: Shutdown options are hidden from lock screen.

Third-party tools are NOT allowed

Thanks

Sorry, my bad. Somehow I was thinking of you wanted to keep the switch user option, but I get what you meant now.

In this case, go to registry editor instead. Then find this:

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PolicyManager\default\Start\HideShutDown

On the right pane, change the "value" name to a 1 value.

This will affect the admin user as well. But you can always change it back to 0 if you ever need to turn off the computer.

    Hello Abdallah,this is Emily.

I would assume you want to make sure admin user can still shut down the computer though, right?

The best route to go about this is probably this:

Launch Group Policy Editor, go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment.

Look for Shut down the system. Double click to launch it. Then from there you just need to remove the user group you don't want access to this feature. Save and then restart the computer.

    Hi Emily,

Doing this will remove the entire shutdown options. I need to keep restart option available for all users.

    Thanks for your input!
