MsMpEng.exe

So my computer went whack and the last thing I saw was MsMpEng.exe which took 80% OF all my memory. I had to shut off my computer and restart it. When I get back on I instantly go back to task manager to see MsMpEng.exe show up and a second later disappear. With further research I see nothing saying that it does this whenever you are in task manager. Is this normal?

Just used Malwarebytes Premium and nothing showed up. Is it possible that MsMpEng.exe just had overloaded my PC?

Yes, it is a serious enough problem I gave you the steps to handle it appropriately. There is the very real possibility WIndows is under attack so i gave you the industry's best free scanners to determine this, and showed exactly what to do to clean up anything found and then fix any broken system files.

If the problem persists I gave you the steps to fix high RAM usage of Anti-Malware executable, a known issue I've handled here hundreds of times before.

Please get started and keep me posted on your progress. This is not something you can ignore.

Thank you for all this information, but I am just simply wondering if it is normal for MsMpEng.exe to disappear exactly when I open task manager. If not then it is a real problem.

Hello, I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

MSmpeng.exe is executable for Windows Security. First thing we need to check if it's under attack from malware, then check for broken System files, then if necessary the known fixes for high RAM usage and finally if nothing else helps do a simple Repair Install:

    1. Here is how to do the most thorough disinfection to make sure any infection is found and properly cleaned up, and then fix any System Files it damages: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for....

Make sure to complete every step. I am standing by to help if needed.

    1. Now type Security in Search, open Security Center and check if all functions are working. If msmpeng. exe is still using high RAM, try these fixes next:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.
