How can I re-enable encryption?

In the last couple of weeks, my Dell Inspiron 5379 has regularly had me go through Bitlocker Recovery to log in. Sometimes this would happen when booting up from being fully shut down. Other times it would occur when just waking up from sleep.

I disabled encryption, hoping to turn it back on immediately afterwards and potentially get out of the Bitlocker loop. But now when I go into my settings, there are no encryption options anymore. Is there any way to make those reappear?

    Hi Douglas,

Thank you for that information, that is correct, you will not be able to re-enable Bitlocker.

Bitlocker does not exist in the Home edition and the PC manufacturer never should have enabled Bitlocker, because you could have lost access to all data on your drive.

I'm using Home! Does that mean there won't be any way to re-enable it?

    Hi Douglas,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

This is a common problem on a Dell device, they enable Bitlocker by default in their factory image and many times that is on the home edition, which Bitlocker is not meant to be able to be enabled in, causing many people to loose access to all their data.

Open the Settings app, then go to System - About, what edition (Home, Pro or Enterprise) if Windows 11 is installed on your laptop?
