Gmail Error Code 404.

Does anyone have a safe and comprehensible answer for getting rid of the following message when trying to use my gmail?

"Error 404.  The requested URL was not found on this server.  That's all we know."

I can eventually get into my gmail site by using my search engine but this is a  more cumbersome way than just clicking on to my icon.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Good evening Greg,

Regarding the Gmail Error Code 404, and your subsequent possible solutions, I did try many of them.

Getting more browsers was not a favorite of mine.  I subscribe to "KISS" (Keep it simple stupid), the old navy admonition.

I did work on, and used, some of your other possibilities but finally found one that worked for me which was deleting the original "short cut icon"  after installing a new one which was then labeled "Gmail 2".  I cannot explain why this worked except that perhaps the original was somehow corrupted.   Even the "tile" icon didn't work.   I did designate "earlier versions" in the Gmail help sections but that didn't work either so since this last solution worked, it will be the final effort.

    Grateful for your help,

    M5

Hi MD. I'm Greg, eleven years awarded MVP, Volunteer Moderator, and Independent Advisor here to help you until this is resolved.

    See fixes for the error:

Try another browser. I would have several browsers on your task bar so there's always one that's best for the task. I use Firefox, Edge and Chrome in that order of preference. It's easy to share bookmarks between all of them in their settings under Import Favorites from another Browser. Firefox and Chrome let you sign in to save and/or sync your Favorites on any other device you sign into, and are more reliable than Edge at doing this. Set the preferred browser as Default in Settings > Apps > Default Apps.

    Firefox download: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

    Chrome download: https://www.google.com/chrome/

I would also use Windows 10 Mail app which is an easier way to access your mail from all your various accounts in one huge inbox that lets you merge all of your Office and Web Mail account, with an even larger ad-free reading pane. See here how to get started:

    Add Gmail: https://www.groovypost.com/howto/add-gmail-emai...

Gmail must have less-secure apps setting changed here:

I hope this helps. Based on what you report back I can answer any questions and may have other steps to perform. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
