Hi meshfactor
Is the Windows 7 product code on a sticker on the casing of your PC and if so, have you tried entering that into Settings - Update and Security - Activation - Change Product Key?

My pc originally came with windows 7 just as w10 released & I was able to upgrade to w10 (almost 10 years ago?).Recently the pc started showing signs of what looked like corrupt hd so I installed a ssd with a w10 that I downloaded from MS windows site. There were many issues that I managed to work through but the final one is activating w10--- when I click 'troubleshoot' I get a message saying a digital license has been found & to click 'upgrade',the pc restarts but comes back with the same error code:0xC004E002. Please help.
Thank you & my apologies if this has been covered elsewhere

I realized that right after I sent the reply, yes, both the old & new versions are Home
Hi meshfactor
Sorry, what I meant by version, is is Windows 10 Home, Pro or Enterprise . . etc. that is installed on your PC now and does that match the previous version installed on that PC?
Thank you so much for getting back to me Dave.
Upgrade history shows Cumulative upgrade for W10 v.2004 for x64 systems installed.
PC unaable to upgrade to install W10 v.20H2 error code 0x80004005
also error code 0x80070643 which I thought I had dealt with
Attempting 'troubleshoot' now crashes with stopcode IRQL not less or equal,
or Page fault in non paged area
I can only run the new ssd as slave, booting from old hard drive invariably crashes
Hi meshfactor
I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .
Re-installing Windows 10, even on a new drive should not affect Windows 10 licensing or activation, which should be automatic . . .
Activation problems after re-installing Windows 10 are generally caused by installing a different version (Home, Pro . . etc.) to the version that was previously installed
Open the Settings App, go to Update and Security - Activation
On that page, is the correct version of Windows 10 installed?
