Why does every new update on Windows cause problems and change settings? Why is Microsoft always trying to act like my mother?

I had a problem with Notepad where it wont display .rtf files correctly. So I found Wordpad buried in the guts, and pulled up a shortcut for it. So now to get Wordpad to be the default for .rtf files. You cant, because in the menu where you can select apps to run type of files, it wont let you choose. Wordpad! ****??? So, just another one of the annoying things in Windows 10. Microsoft apparently has thousands of programmers, and they seem to spend all their time dreaming up ways to annoy us users. They change things for NO reason. They add 'features which are just annoying. Like that thing with the scroll bar where the handle is minimised. WHY????

I am very glad Windows 10 will be Microsofts last attempt at an operating system. They nearly had it with 7. Even XP is better than 10.

YAY! Your method worked. So tell me, when I look at the apps through the settings, why does this not work there? There is no choice to choose other apps, only get from the Microsoft store. This is one of the things I dislike so much about Windows. It is very inconsistent.

Usually if you right click the rtf file and select open with then more apps WordPad is at the bottom of the list, just make sure you select the check box to always use this when you have selected WordPad.

Or is WordPad not in the list.?
