My Touchscreen, keyboard and Touchpad no longer work.  I am running Windows 10 Pro. Version 20 H2.

In Device Manager/Human Interface Devices/ELAN EZ Touch Filter it says" Device cannot start (Code 10). A request for the HID descriptor failed.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and reinstalling the Driver to no avail.

Can you help me?

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the complete model number of the Lenovo PC?
    • Are you aware of any changes on the PC prior to this issue?

    Let us try few steps.

    Step 1: Update the Driver.

    1.     Press Windows + X key and select Device Manager from the context menu.

    2.     Spot and expand the expand Human Interface Device.

    3.     Right-click on the Unknowndevice and click on Properties.

    4.     On the next screen, go to Driver tab and click on Update Driver button

    5.     Click on Search Automatically for updated driver software option.

    Step 2: Update hardware drivers.

We would suggest you to download and install the Chipset, Firmware and the BIOS driver from Manufacturerwebsite.

BIOS Disclaimer: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Step 3: Check in Safe mode

Try booting your PC in safe mode. Refer to the article on how to Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem doesn't happen in safe mode, this means that default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue. Observing Windows in safe mode enables you to narrow down the source of a problem, and can help you troubleshoot problems on your PC.

However, code 10 in device manager indicates "This device cannot start. Try upgrading the device drivers for this device." Please refer this article for more information: Error codes in Device Manager in Windows

Let us know the results. If the issue persists, we will certainly assist you further.
