Accessing Azure Synapse dedicated sql pool using jdbc results in internal error

When I try to connect using the provided JDBC strings everything appears to be well. When I try to actually access the data in the tables, I get an internal error from the Synapse side (looks like from Polybase when trying to access the data files on HDFS) that states 'Error occurred while accessing HDFS: Java exception raised on call to HdfsBridge_Connect. Java exception message:
Configuration property blstorage9382.dfs.core.windows.net not found.'
Seems like something internal is not doing what it should. Is anyone able to confirm?

2021-06-03T09:26:25.347+00:00 Some further details, this seems to only occur if I create it as an external table. If I do a bulk import (which I have to do if the data is split over many files) I can see the data over JDBC just fine.
Perhaps I am just misunderstanding what the difference is between an external table and a table is (but I would still expect an external table, with the data stored on HDFS to still be accessible...?)

As per the error message ‘Configuration property blstorage9382.dfs.core.windows.net not found`, it looks like connection was not configured correctly.
Could you please share your complete command which you are trying to access Azure synapse dedicated sql pool using jdbc?

2021-06-03T14:36:46.06+00:00 That's the problem. I am not setting this in the connection. All I want to do is connect to a database using a JDBC client (In this case, DbVisualiser using the SQL Server Microsoft JDBC Driver, and the sqladminuser credentials - but it could just as easily be R Studio or any other JDBC driver).
The connection succeeds to the serverless SQL endpoint, but I cannot run any select statements against the data due to this issue, which seems to be internal.

In order to investigate further, could you please share the complete steps which you are trying to connect the serverless SQL endpoint and how you are running any select statement?
