Shared Folder Question

We recently replaced one Windows 10 PC with another.

PC A had access to a single shared folder on PC B.  The folder on PC was set to "Everyone."  PC A clicked a desktop link to access this folder.

PC A was replaced by PC C, with all files/folders/links transferred over.

When using PC C, and clicking the desktop link, it asks for the user's PIN.  When the correct PIN is entered, it says that user doesn't have access.

We tried to set up access on PC B by adding that user.  We entered the same user email as on PC C, but PC B claims that email is not on a MS account, even though that's the email on PC A, and that email is set up in MS 365.

Desired result:  Get the end user the same access, just as she had on the previous PC.   I believe this can happen if the user's email could be recognized as a MS account.  I don't understand why it's not.

Restoro is not recommended by any expert. Are you referring to an ad in one of the tutorials I linked above? Please do not be distracted by the ads, just the steps that are given in each.

    Greg,

I'm afraid the software in question, Restoro, only "identified" problems, and wanted payment before we could know for sure the issue would be fixed.  I can't have that authorized unless the solution would be guaranteed.  I'll have to try to go through WIndows support.

Can the other account sign into their MS account on any PC?

If so run the Microsoft Accounts troubleshooter at http://www.thewindowsclub.com/microsoft-account...

Thanks for the info, Greg.  I'll try those this afternoon.

One other thing that I noticed...

When I signed into PC C with my email address, I could access that shared folder very easily, as I am recognized on PC A.  When I try to set up the intended user as a user on PC A, I get the "must use a MS account" message.  Both of our emails are hosted by the same email domain within MS 365.

If I could simply get her email to be recognized by MS, that would clear everything up.  Thoughts?

    Thanks!

Hi Jim. I'm Greg, an Independent Advisor here to help until this is resolved.

Network sharing has been widely broken ever since they removed Homegroup, causing many to believe this was intentional to push us to OneDrive sharing. More about that option later.

I'll give you everything possible to try for file sharing problems so at least something will work. If you need help performing any steps I am standing by here to help:

See here for how to share files and printers over network after removal of HomeGroup in Version 1803:

If Windows 7 is involved make sure if applicable you have the WIndows Update released to fix Windows 7 sharing issues here: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/microsoft...

Test if turning off Controlled Folder access helps: https://www.thewindowsclub.com/controlled-folde...

You may want to change to sharing via OneDrive: https://www.computerworld.com/article/3256907/m...

If you want to sign into the same OneDrive account on all PC's then you can sync files by parking them in the OneDrive folder. You can also sync Documents, Pictures and Desktop folders between them using Folder Protection Backup here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/116029-turn.... This moves those User folders into the OneDrive folder, but it can be done for all User folders from their Properties > Location tab if desired as shown here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki... .

If you want to express your opinion on this to Microsoft use the Feedback Hub app in Start Menu where developers are tasked to process consumer feedback. They will not even see it here. This is a tech forums staffed mostly by volunteers trying to help others with your problems.

If you want to post back a Share link from your Feedback here others who see this thread can vote it up and add to it.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
